Why get a dental check-up?

The secret to having a healthy and beautiful smile is understanding your oral health care needs.

When you know exactly where your dental health stands, you will be able to make informed decisions about your dental treatment and take steps to prevent problems that could lead to costly treatment.

A check-up with the dentist is a valuable opportunity for you to gain insights into your dental health. Take advantage of this chance to get authoritative answers to your questions about dental health and to learn more about a variety of cosmetic and general dental treatments.

Your dental check-up at Parkfield Dental: what to expect

When you arrive for your dental check-up, you will be greeted by our front of house team.

Next, we will guide you to one of our dental surgeries and help you settle in. A member of our team will take a couple of X-ray images of your teeth, and we may take some additional diagnostic images with an intraoral camera.

The dentist will then come in to meet you and listen to any concerns you may have about your dental health. He or she will then begin the comprehensive oral examination and carefully evaluate your mouth.

    This examination includes:

    • Checking your teeth for signs of decay and damage
    • Examining your gums for signs of infection
    • Performing an oral cancer screening
    • Evaluating your other soft tissues for signs of disease

After that, the dentist will examine your X-rays and other diagnostic images, review your medical and dental history and ask you some questions. Once this information-gathering step is finished, the dentist will review the findings with you and let you know if you need any treatment.

If you do need treatment, our treatment co-ordinator will sit down with you to discuss scheduling and financing your care. We will also happily answer any questions you have about the findings of your dental check-up.

After that, you are all done! Your check-up is complete. We will keep a record of your progress so that you can come back any time you have a concern or wish to complete an item on your treatment plan.

    I would recommend them.
    Thanks to all the staff.

Frequently asked questions about dental check-ups

    • How often should I see a dentist for a check-up?

We recommend that you have a check-up with a dentist at least once a year. This will help you stay on top of any new developments in your dental health.

    • What should I do to prepare for my dental check-up?

You can prepare for a check-up with your dentist by making sure that your medical history is up-to-date. Bring a list of your current medications with you to your appointment and let your dentist know about any changes in your dental or overall health since your last visit. It is also a courtesy to brush your teeth right before your visit!

    • What is included in my dental check-up?

Your check-up here at Parkfield Dental includes two X-ray images and a comprehensive oral examination by the dentist. Your dentist will carefully examine your X-rays and any other diagnostic images we may take, assess the health of your teeth, gums and other oral tissues, check for signs of oral cancer and then create your treatment plan (if dental treatment is needed) and review it with you.

    • Will I get my teeth cleaned during my dental check-up?

You can request a cleaning appointment with our on-site hygienist. The cleaning will not happen during your basic dental health check-up, but we can schedule one for you on the same day, if you wish.

    • Can I book an emergency dental check-up?

Yes, we can treat you for a dental emergency here at Parkfield Dental. We will address your emergency first, and then we can plan a comprehensive dental check-up for another day. If you are not in pain but would like to visit us to learn more about treatments like dental implants, orthodontics or smile makeovers, then you can contact us to book a free consultation.

A very safe experience and of course excellent, high standard dental care
